Get your hands dirty: how to make the perfect pie crust

Updated: Apr 17, 2021

Have you ever tried making a pie crust? I can’t say its the easiest thing in the world. It has to be the perfect consistency. Our Sinless Sweets pie crust is made different than any other. We make our own crust with all natural ingredients like almond flour, coconut flour and gluten free flour. It took me several times to get it just right, playing around with different flours, different sugars and different ingredients.

Your pie crust will also depend on what type of pie you are making. For example, if your making a key lime pie, you add a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg to the flour to off set the tartness of the key lime flavoring. For a peanut butter pie, you may add cocoa powder to the crust to give it that nice chocolate flavor to off set the rich peanut butter filling.

One of the many things I love about baking, is being able to get creative in the kitchen and trying different recipes with different ingredients. Getting the perfect pie crust isn’t easy, but just stick it!! You will get it!!! See below for one of my basic crust recipes that you can use for pies such as apple, pumpkin or blueberry pie. Feel free to spice it up and add some of your own spices or flavorings. Let me know how it turns out!!

Pie crust recipe:

~1 3/4 cup super fine blanched almond flour

~3 tablespoons coconut flour

~1/2 tsp sea salt

~1/3 cup gold gass fed butter

~2 tablespoons coconut oil

~1 large egg

Directions:

Spray 8-9inch pie pan, Mix all ingredients together and spread out evenly among pie pan. Bake at 350 degrees until the crust turns slightly brown around the edges. Let cool before adding filling.
